Crab Imperial

Here is another amazing crab recipe. This is more of a traditional type recipe that you’ll find in many restaurants on the East Coast in one version or another. As with any recipe, you can change some of the ingredients to suit your tastes. This is the version with the ingredients that my family perfers.

This makes about 4 servings

Ingredients:

1.5 lbs lump crab meat (use Blue Crab or Dungeness Crab)

2 teaspoons Old Bay Seasoning (By far the BEST seasoning for Crab)

4 Tablespoons butter

1/4 cup chopped red and green bell peppers

1/4 cup chopped onions

3/4 cup mayonnaise

1 Tablespoon mustard

1 Tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

1/2 teaspoons of ground pepper

1/4 teaspoon hot sauce (your choice)

1 egg, beaten

another 1/4 cup mayonnaise

You will need 4 casserole dishes or 4 oven dishes.

Preheat your oven to 400 degrees and then saute the onions and peppers with the butter until they are soft. Set aside your onions and peppers. Then in a separate dish, mix the 3/4 c of mayo with the worcestershire sauce, hot sauce, mustard, pepper, and Old Bay Seasoning. Once the veggies are cool, mix them in. Add the crab meat and try to keep the pieces from being mushed up too much. It’s better to have bigger pieces of crab for this dish. Next you’re almost done! Take your oven dishes and divide the mixture evenly into the 4 dishes. Bake the mixture for about 20 minutes. Then you will blend the remaining mayo and egg together. Spoon this over each dish. This time, broil the mixture in the dishes until they are brown which should only take about a minute. Be careful with broiling as it’s easy to burn!
